Job summary

Supply Heroes are recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Reception-aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition at Sutton Coldfield Primary School.

Based in Sutton Coldfield, the role is full-time, Monday to Friday, starting ASAP. You will work 1:1 in the morning and support a Year 1 class in the afternoons, collaborating with the SENCO and school team to implement EHCP targets and autism-friendly strategies.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting Early Years or Reception pupils with autism.
• Knowledge of autism-friendly practices and sensory needs.
• Experience using visual timetables, symbols and task boxes.
• Understanding of co-regulation and recognising distress signals.
• Ability to adapt activities with initiative and calm demeanour.
• Confidence supporting non-verbal communication and social interaction.
• Experience promoting independence and self-help skills.
• Awareness of personal space, positive behaviour and safe intervention.
• Experience supporting EHCP outcomes and personalised targets.
• Calm, patient and proactive approach to pupils.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception pupil with autism.
• Help the pupil access learning and daily routines in a safe, nurturing environment.
• Implement strategies and targets outlined within the pupil's EHCP.
• Use visual supports including symbols, visual timetables and Now & Next boards.
• Support communication, emotional regulation and social interaction.
• Assist with transitions, routines and play opportunities.
• Encourage independence with daily living skills, including eating and toileting where required.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.
• Provide classroom support in a Year 1 class during afternoon sessions.
