Job summary

Uniform Education is recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with MLD and SLD at a Uxbridge school. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to help pupils access learning and develop communication and independence.

The role involves 1:1 and small group support, aligning with EHCP targets, and using sensory-based strategies to promote engagement. DBS checks and right-to-work in the UK are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (essential).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, caring and resilient approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Right to Work in the UK.

About the Role

A specialist SEN school in Uxbridge is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) within a supportive and well-resourced learning environment.

Working closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff, you will help pupils access learning, develop communication and independence, and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes through tailored, person-centred support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with MLD and SLD
  • Support pupils with their learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, and social development
  • Assist in implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and abilities
  • Use communication and sensory-based strategies to promote engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Support pupils with personal care where required
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, caring, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to Work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting pupils with MLD, SLD, Autism (ASC), or communication needs
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory learning approaches
  • Experience within a specialist SEN school, mainstream school, or care setting
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or health and social care
  • Manual handling or Team Teach training
