Job summary

Horizon Teachers is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Hillingdon, supporting pupils with SEND and ASD.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, help pupils access the curriculum, develop communication and independence, and support behaviour and emotional regulation.

ASAP start, full-time role with weekly pay between £525 and £555. DBS required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism / ASD.
  • Patient, calm and empathetic with resilience for challenging situations.
  • Genuine passion for working in specialist education.

Responsibilities

Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Hillingdon

Salary: £525–£555 per week

Contract: ASAP Start | Full-Time

The Role

You will be working as part of a supportive team within a specialist SEN school, providing tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD).

The successful candidate will be confident supporting pupils both in the classroom and throughout the wider school environment, helping them to engage with learning, develop their independence and manage their individual needs.

Main Duties
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND and ASD
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities
  • Helping pupils develop their communication, social and independence skills
  • Providing support with emotional regulation and behaviour where required
  • Following individual EHCP targets, support plans and behaviour strategies
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff
  • Creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment for pupils
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and school activities
  • Encouraging positive relationships and promoting pupils' confidence and independence
  • Assisting with personal care where required
About You

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will:

  • Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Have experience supporting pupils with Autism / ASD
  • Be patient, calm, empathetic and resilient
  • Have a genuine passion for working within specialist education
  • Be confident supporting pupils with a range of needs and abilities
  • Understand the importance of individualised support
  • Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Be reliable, committed and enthusiastic
  • Be willing to learn and develop their understanding of specialist SEN provision
