Job summary

Bright Star Talent are recruiting for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Birmingham, supporting students aged 11-19. The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, working with teachers and other staff to manage challenging behaviour and maintain engagement throughout the school day.

The ideal candidate will have experience in SEN settings, a calm and patient approach, and a good safeguarding understanding.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
• Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.
• A DBS check on the Update Service is required.

Responsibilities

• Support students aged 11-19 with a range of additional needs.
• Work closely with teachers and support staff.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support as required.
• Manage and respond to challenging behaviour appropriately.
• Help students stay engaged with learning and school routines.
• Build positive relationships with students and support emotional needs.
• Follow individual support and behaviour plans and create a calm environment.

The successful candidate will have experience working with young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour and will be confident supporting students both in the classroom and during less structured parts of the school day.

The Role

• Supporting students aged 11-19 with a range of additional needs
• Working closely with teachers and other support staff
• Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required
• Managing and responding appropriately to challenging behaviour
• Helping students remain engaged with learning and school routines
• Building positive and trusting relationships with students
• Supporting students with their emotional and behavioural needs
• Following individual support and behaviour plans
• Creating a calm, safe and supportive environment

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
• Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour
• Experience within an SEN or specialist education setting is highly desirable
• Patient, calm and confident when dealing with challenging situations
• Good understanding of safeguarding and working with vulnerable young people
• Able to work effectively as part of a wider school team
• Must have a DBS on the Update Service
