Job summary

Smile Education is recruiting passionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support welcoming primary schools across Middlesbrough and Teesside. Roles include 1:1 and small-group support, with opportunities across EYFS to KS2 and specialist SEND work.

Flexible supply and longer-term placements are available, with competitive PAYE rates starting from £95 per day. DBS checks and safeguarding compliance are required, and a dedicated consultant will assist throughout placements.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting.
• Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH or other learning needs.
• UK rights to work in the UK and safeguarding awareness.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one.
• References and safeguarding checks completed.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 SEN support to pupils.
• Deliver small-group interventions for literacy and numeracy.
• Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
• Assist with specialist SEN needs (autism, ADHD, SEMH).
• Provide flexible supply cover and long-term placements.

What we're looking for:

• Ideally, a UK-recognised Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or above.
• Previous experience supporting children with SEN in a school or relevant educational setting.
• Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs or other additional learning needs.
• An understanding of inclusive education, safeguarding and positive behaviour support.
• Confidence adapting activities to meet individual learning needs.
• Patience, empathy, resilience and excellent communication skills.
• A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Experience working with EHCPs, individual support plans, sensory needs or specialist communication strategies would be particularly welcomed.

Essential requirements:

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN or additional learning needs.
• Ideally, a recognised Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or above.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced child workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new DBS.
• Satisfactory professional references and completion of safeguarding checks.
