Job summary

Smile Education is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a child with highly complex needs in SEN settings across the Telford area. This role offers flexible placements, from five days a week to single-day shifts, to suit your availability and preferences.

The ideal candidate will have recent 1:1 experience with additional needs, a TA qualification (Level 2/3 desirable), and a patient, team-focused approach. DBS Update Service is preferred or obtainable through Smile Education.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
  • Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) desirable.
  • Experience supporting children with complex needs.
  • Enhanced DBS/Update Service preferred or willingness to obtain through Smile Education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with highly complex needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help create a calm, inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist pupils with varying abilities and learning needs, including those requiring extra support.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and learning activities to boost engagement.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support pupil outcomes.
  • Support social, emotional, and academic development to build confidence.
  • Assist with playground duties and other duties as required by the school.

Are you a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant who is experienced working very closely with SEN children in the Telford area looking for a flexible role within a supportive SEN school environment?

We are seeking an patient and reliable Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children's learning and development across welcoming and well-established primary schools.

As a Primary School Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with highly complex additional needs.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to create a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Assisting pupils with varying abilities and learning needs, including those requiring additional support
  • Helping to prepare classroom resources and learning activities to enhance pupil engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and other school staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional, and academic development, helping them to build confidence and reach their full potential
  • Assisting with playground duties, school activities, and other responsibilities as required by the school
The ideal candidate would have:
  • Recent experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 desirable).
  • Experience supporting children with complex needs.
  • Previous experience delivering medical care is advantageous but not essential.
  • Confidence working independently whilst also being an effective member of a wider classroom team.
  • A patient, caring and flexible approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Smile Education.
