The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.

To support teaching and learning across theschool, in and outside of the classroom, working under the supervision of theclass teacher, department lead and senior leadership team. To be responsiblefor promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young peoplewithin the school.

Major Duties andResponsibilities:

• To promoteevery pupil’s inclusion within the life of the school (curricular,social, personal) ensuring their equality of opportunity.
• To work underthe guidance of teaching/senior staff to implement agreed workprogrammes.
• To supportindividual pupils on intervention programmes.
• To assist theteacher in curriculum planning, management & preparation ofresources.
• To providesupport for teaching staff across the school ensuring an appropriatelearning environment.
• To assist withthe teaching of pupils; whole class, small groups and individuals asdirected.
• To be anintegral part of the school, working in close partnership with all staff.
• To care forthe general safety and welfare of pupils and their hygiene and personalneeds.
• Assist withmanual handling of pupils

Job Activities

Planning

• To assist with the developmentand implementation of Individual Pupil Plans (educational and social)
• To work with the teacher inlesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans asappropriate

Monitoring andAssessment

• To provide feedback to pupilsin relation to progress and achievement
• To monitor and evaluate pupils’responses to learning activities through observation and plannedrecording of achievement against pre-determined learningtargets/objectives
• To be responsible for keepingand updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviewsof systems/records as requested
• To undertake marking of pupils’work and accurately record achievement/progress
• To liaise sensitively andeffectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher andparticipate in feedback sessions or meetings as directed

Teaching andLearning

• To implement agreed learningactivities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to theindividual needs/learning styles of pupils
• To implement local and nationallearning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, and make effective use ofopportunities provided by other learning activities to support thedevelopment of relevant skills
• Develop and promote pupilsindependence, social and communication skills, equal opportunities andracial equality including support for pupils in the community
• To support the use of ICT inlearning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence inits use
• To help pupils to accesslearning activities through specialist support
• To administer and assessroutine tests and invigilate exams/tests

BehaviourSupport

• To assist in engaging pupilsand keeping them focused on tasks set and supervise structured playprogrammes where appropriate
• To help pupils to developpositive interpersonal skills
• Implement and support theschool’s policies and procedures, individual behaviour plans and thereward systems
• To provide comment as requiredon behaviour and learning to teachers and other professionals

General

• To have an understanding of thebroad range of Special Educational Needs(specific learning difficulties, complex learning difficulties,moderate learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, emotionalbehavioural, mental health & social communication difficulties,ADHD) with reference to how this effects pupils’ learning
• To encourage pupils to interactand work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in groupactivities
• To be aware of and supportdifference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities tolearn and develop
• There may be a requirement toprovide additional pupil support on school transport outside of theschool day.
