Job summary

Career Teachers are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Sheffield. You will work within a specialised SEN Hub, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs and helping them access learning in a safe, nurturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in school or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of SEN needs such as ASC, ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, SEMH or learning difficulties.

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning activities and intervention programmes.
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and behaviour management.
  • Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external professionals.

£95 – £120 per day (depending on experience)

Career Teachers are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Sheffield. This exciting opportunity will involve working within a specialised SEN Hub, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs and helping them access learning in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.

This is a full-time position commencing ASAP and continuing for the entire 2026/2027 academic year.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs. You will play a key role in helping children develop academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring they can thrive both in the classroom and within the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with a range of SEN needs.
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning activities and intervention programmes.
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and behaviour management.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement in learning.
  • Support pupils during classroom lessons, breaktimes, and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Implement strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support plans.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs within a school, childcare, or support setting.
  • Knowledge of SEN needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, SEMH, or learning difficulties.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of pupils throughout the school day.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential where suitable experience is demonstrated.
