Job summary

Long Term Futures Ltd is seeking dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with special educational needs across primary and secondary settings in Newham. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, adapting approaches to individual learning needs and collaborating with teachers to deliver differentiated tasks.

The role is full-time and long-term with potential to become permanent, offering weekly pay, CPD and safeguarding training, plus dedicated consultant support to help you

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or transferable experience from education, care, youth work or similar settings.
  • Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting pupils with different abilities and needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build professional relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Confidence providing individual, small-group and classroom support.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour management and inclusive education.
  • Ability to follow guidance from teachers and SEN staff while using initiative.
  • Availability to commit to a full-time, long-term position.
  • DBS check: Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willing to complete a new check.

Location: Newham, East London

Pay: per day

Contract Type: Full-time, long-term temporary with potential to become permanent

Commutable from: Stratford, Plaistow, East Ham, Forest Gate, Canning Town, West Ham, Barking and surrounding areas

Long Term Futures is recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across primary and secondary school settings in Newham. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence, independence and classroom skills.

We are looking for candidates who can adapt their approach to different learning needs, build positive relationships with pupils and work effectively alongside teaching staff. Whether your background is in education, SEN support, youth work or a related care setting, we would welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience and a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with additional learning needs, helping them access lessons and participate in school activities.
  • Deliver small-group interventions to reinforce learning, develop key skills and encourage pupil engagement.
  • Support teachers with classroom activities, lesson preparation and the delivery of differentiated learning tasks.
  • Adapt communication and support strategies to meet the individual needs and abilities of pupils.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and appropriate social interactions throughout the school day.
  • Help pupils develop independence, confidence and practical strategies for managing classroom expectations.
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and SEN staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to maintain consistent approaches to pupil support.
  • Promote an inclusive learning environment where pupils feel respected, supported and encouraged to achieve.
  • Follow school safeguarding procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe, positive environment for all pupils.
Essential Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, or relevant transferable experience from education, care, youth work or similar settings.
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting pupils with different learning abilities and needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build professional, supportive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Confidence providing individual, small-group and general classroom support.
  • An understanding of the importance of positive behaviour management and inclusive education.
  • Ability to follow guidance from teachers and SEN staff while using initiative appropriately.
  • Availability to commit to a full-time, long-term position.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.

Previous experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties or social, emotional and mental health needs would be beneficial. However, applicants with relevant transferable experience who demonstrate the right skills and approach are also encouraged to apply.
