Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Luton. You will provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support for learners with a range of SEND, enabling access to a differentiated curriculum and progress toward EHCP outcomes.

The role offers full-time term-time-only employment, with a daily rate of £100-£120 depending on experience, and opportunities for professional development within a supportive SEND environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable.
  • Experience with autism, PMLD, SLD or communication difficulties is advantageous.
  • A patient, calm and empathetic approach with the ability to build strong relationships with learners.

SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Luton

Contract Type: Full-Time (Term-Time Only)

Salary: £100 - £120 per day

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Luton, supporting learners with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.

The school provides a nurturing and highly personalised learning environment for young people aged 11-18, with a particular focus on supporting pupils with severe and complex learning needs. Learners follow individualised pathways designed to develop their academic progress, communication, independence, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support, helping learners access the curriculum and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to learners with a range of SEND, including severe and complex learning needs.
  • Support pupils to access a highly differentiated and personalised curriculum, adapting activities to meet individual needs.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with learners and promote communication, confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities, learning resources, observations and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Support learners with their EHCP outcomes, life skills and preparation for adulthood, encouraging greater independence wherever possible.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families and other professionals to ensure learners receive consistent support.
Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting learners with complex learning needs, autism, PMLD, SLD or communication difficulties would be advantageous.
  • A patient, calm and empathetic approach with the ability to build strong relationships with learners.
  • Confident adapting communication and learning activities to suit different abilities and needs.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and organisational skills.
  • A genuine commitment to promoting inclusion, independence and positive outcomes for young people.
