Job summary

TimePlan Education is partnering with a special school in Lymington to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant. You will support students with autism, ADHD and other needs through 1:1 and small-group work to help them engage and grow.

We are seeking patient, empathetic and resilient individuals who can stay calm in challenging moments, follow EHCPs and behaviour strategies, and collaborate with teachers and therapists.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting students with SEN, autism or ADHD is desirable.
• Ability to follow EHCPs and behaviour strategies.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
• Help students access learning and build confidence and independence.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff.
• Assist with managing anxiety, emotions and challenging situations.
• Support communication and social development.
• Follow individual support plans and EHCP recommendations.

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm | Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm

Contract: Full-time

We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in Lymington. About the students

• Autism and complex learning profiles
• Co-existing difficulties associated with autism, including ADHD
• Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
• Specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia and dyspraxia
• Language and social communication needs
• Social, emotional and mental health needs
• Sensory integration and processing difficulties
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• Heightened anxiety
• Selective mutism
• Self-harm
• Challenging behaviour
• A history of placement breakdowns

The role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping students feel safe, supported and able to engage with their education.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs
• Supporting students to access learning and develop their confidence and independence
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students
• Helping students manage anxiety, emotions and challenging situations
• Supporting communication and social development
• Following individual support plans, EHCP recommendations and behaviour strategies
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
• Promoting a calm, consistent and nurturing learning environment
• Supporting students with developing life skills and preparing them for greater independence
