Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant for mainstream primary settings in the Merseyside area. The role supports pupils with diverse needs, including autism, to help them access learning in a safe, inclusive environment.

You will work with a dedicated team, providing one-on-one or small group support, under the guidance of a lead teacher, with a focus on progressing learning and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in UK schools or a care setting, preferably Special Education/Autism experience.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply) and eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs and commitment to long-term full-time work.
  • Professional references from recent employers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support tailored to each child.
  • Assist lead teacher with lesson plans and activities.
  • Foster inclusion, wellbeing, and positive self-esteem among pupils.
  • Support positive behaviour using school techniques and de-escalation where needed.
  • Collaborate with SENDco and staff to monitor pupil progress and record outcomes.
  • Assist with personal care or mobility to ensure pupil safety.

Location: Merseyside Area
Salary: £95.00 - £115.00 per day (Experience Dependent)

Contract: Full-Time, Term Time (08:30 - 15:30, Monday - Friday)

Are you a dedicated and compassionate individual looking to remove barriers to learning? We are seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. This is a rewarding role where you will work closely with students with diverse needs, including autism and complex learning requirements, ensuring every child feels safe, included, and empowered to grow.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a pivotal role in both classroom management and individual pupil development:

  • Individualised Support: Provide one-on-one and small group support, tailoring your approach to meet the specific needs of the child/children.
  • Learning Facilitation: Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and educational activities, utilising specialised strategies to enhance the learning experience.
  • Inclusion & Wellbeing: Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere that promotes self-esteem, independence, and social interaction among pupils.
  • Behaviour Management: Promote positive behaviour using established school techniques, dealing promptly with conflict while encouraging pupil responsibility.
  • Progress Tracking: Collaborate with the SENDco and teaching staff to monitor, record, and report on pupil achievement and progress.
  • Care & Safety: Ensure the safety of all pupils, providing assistance with personal care or mobility where required.
Requirements & Experience

We are looking for a patient& caring individual who possesses:

  • Experience: A minimum of 6 months of experience working in UK schools or a care giving capacity (Special Education/Autism experience highly preferred).
  • Compliance: An Enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to apply for one) and eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to effectively interact with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Attitude: A genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs and a commitment to long-term, full-time work.
  • References: Professional references from recent employers.
