We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Milton Keynes, working with children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex additional needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, nurturing and resilient, and who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

The role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide tailored support to pupils both in and out of the classroom. You will help children overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence and independence, and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs.
  • Supporting children with SEMH and complex needs to engage positively with learning.
  • Helping pupils develop their social, emotional and communication skills.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and helping children to regulate their emotions.
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
  • Adapting activities and providing encouragement to meet individual needs.
  • Promoting pupils' independence, confidence and self-esteem.

  • Experienced in SEN, SEMH, complex needs, behaviour support or a related setting (desirable but not essential).
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, autism, complex needs or challenging behaviour would be highly beneficial.
