Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking SEND Support Staff to work in mainstream primary schools around Leeds. You will assist pupils with SEND to access learning, support emotional regulation, and engage with the curriculum in KS1–KS2.

Roles include 1:1 support or small-group interventions, working with teachers and SENCOs to ensure consistent, appropriate help. Immediate start for suitable candidates in contract positions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months experience supporting children with SEND.
• Experience in a primary school or similar setting.
• Knowledge of Autism/ASC and ADHD helpful.
• Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support.
• Ability to help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour.
• Strong communication to build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with access to learning in mainstream classes.

Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant / SEND Support Staff

Start Date: Immediate Start

Do you have experience helping children with SEND access learning within a mainstream school?

Are you confident supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD or other additional needs?

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can provide consistent support and make a positive difference to a child's school experience?

TeacherActive is working with a range of mainstream primary schools across Leeds and the surrounding areas who require experienced SEND Support Staff for day-to-day and longer-term positions.

These roles are based within mainstream primary schools rather than specialist SEND settings. You will provide additional support to pupils who require help accessing the curriculum, regulating their emotions, developing their independence and engaging positively with school.

As SEND Support Staff, you could be working 1:1 with an individual pupil, supporting small-group interventions or providing additional classroom support across KS1 and KS2. You will work alongside teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to ensure pupils receive consistent and appropriate support.

The successful SEND Support Staff will have:

• At least 6 months' experience supporting children with SEND
• Experience within a primary school or similar educational setting
• Knowledge of additional needs including Autism/ASC and ADHD
• Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support
• Confidence supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
• A patient, resilient and caring approach to supporting children
