Job summary

Teaching Personnel are recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a welcoming primary school in Kirkby from September 2026. The role offers both full-time and part-time opportunities with pay of £14.25–£15.50 per hour (DOE).

You will provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEN, assist groups needing intervention, and work with the school’s SENCOs and external professionals to help pupils reach their potential. A DBS check is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEN.
  • Experience in a primary school or similar setting is preferred.
  • Ability to manage varying needs and behaviours with patience.

Responsibilities

Teaching Personnel are recruiting experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils within a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Kirkby from September 2026.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you may be required to:

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support small groups of children requiring additional intervention.
  • Assist pupils with ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH needs, and other learning barriers.
  • Help implement EHCP targets and behaviour support strategies.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
  • Encourage the social, emotional and academic development of pupils.
  • Create a positive, engaging and safe learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEN.
  • Have worked within a primary school, specialist provision, or children’s care setting.
  • Are confident managing varying needs and behaviours.
  • Can build strong relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Are patient, resilient and passionate about supporting children’s development.
  • Can adapt quickly and make a positive impact from day one.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or are willing to obtain one.
