Job summary

Supply Desk Ltd is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in High Wycombe. The role involves providing targeted support to pupils with special educational needs, assisting teaching staff and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

The ideal candidate will be caring, patient and able to work within a SEN team, supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development while promoting a positive learning environment. DBS required or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
  • Work with class teacher and SENCO to support learning needs.
  • Support pupils' academic, social, emotional and communication development.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Encourage confidence, independence, resilience and positive attitudes to learning.
  • Support pupils with challenging behaviour using calm, consistent approaches.
  • Assist pupils with developing communication and social skills.
  • Provide additional support during lessons, breaks, lunchtimes, outdoor activities and trips.
  • Support pupils with personal care and hygiene needs where appropriate.
  • Monitor and record pupils' progress, behaviour, engagement and development.
  • Communicate with teachers, SENCOs, parents and school team.
  • Create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in training and professional development.

About the Role

Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of special educational needs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support pupils' individual learning and development needs.
  • Support pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
  • Build positive, trusting, and supportive relationships with pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, resilience, and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour, using calm, consistent, and positive approaches.
  • Assist pupils with developing their communication, social skills, and relationships with peers.
  • Provide additional support during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, outdoor activities, and school trips where required.
  • Support pupils with personal care and hygiene needs where appropriate.
  • Monitor and record pupils' progress, behaviour, engagement, and development.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, carers, and other members of the school team.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every pupil feels valued.
  • Follow school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, behaviour, and confidentiality.
  • Take part in relevant training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school and SEN team.

  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A commitment to inclusion and ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive.
