Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Barnsley, working closely with teachers and the SEN team to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, aiding pupils’ academic, social and emotional development, and helping implement learning plans in a calm, inclusive environment. Safeguarding and DBS checks are part of the process.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Barnsley. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and develop their independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
  • Assist pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Support children with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, communication difficulties and learning needs.
  • Help implement individual learning and support plans.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and independence.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times and other school activities.
  • Monitor pupils' progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents and other professionals.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Follow school safeguarding and behaviour policies.

Experience

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, autism, ADHD, communication needs, behavioural needs or learning difficulties is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
