Job summary

Long Term Futures are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist SEN school in Westminster. You will support pupils with complex needs and work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to deliver highly individualised assistance throughout the school day.

The role is full-time, term-time only, with a September 2026 start and a temp-to-perm pathway, offering a stable, long-term position and the potential to become a permanent member of the school team.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN or complex needs.
  • Experience within an SEN school or specialist provision is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of ASD, communication needs, learning disabilities or physical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with complex SEN needs.
  • Support pupils with needs including ASD, learning difficulties, communication needs and physical disabilities.
  • Assist pupils in accessing learning and participating fully in school life.
  • Support communication, emotional regulation and independence.
  • Follow individual strategies, EHCPs and support plans.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals.
  • Provide mobility and personal care support where required.

SEN Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs - Westminster
Full Time | Term Time Only | September 2026 Start
Up to £120 per day | Long Term Role (Temp to Perm)

Long Term Futures are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Westminster, supporting pupils with complex needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous SEN, complex needs, care or specialist school experience who is looking for a stable, long-term position. You'll work closely with teachers, therapists and other SEN professionals to provide highly individualised support throughout the school day.

The position is available on a long-term, temp-to-perm basis, giving the successful SEN Teaching Assistant the opportunity to become a permanent member of the school team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with complex SEN needs
  • Support pupils with needs including ASD, learning difficulties, communication needs and physical disabilities
  • Assist pupils in accessing learning and participating fully in school life
  • Support communication, emotional regulation and independence
  • Follow individual strategies, EHCPs and support plans
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals

Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN or complex needs
  • Experience within an SEN school, specialist provision, care or support setting is highly desirable
  • Understanding of ASD, communication needs, learning disabilities or physical needs
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Confidence providing individualised support throughout the school day
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine interest in developing a career within SEND education

  • Excellent access via the Jubilee, Victoria, District, Circle and Bakerloo lines
