Job summary

Randstad UK is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant for flexible day-to-day supply across Exeter and surrounding Devon areas. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN, helping implement IEPs and behaviour strategies, while collaborating with teachers in diverse school settings.

Role offers flexible days, local bookings within travel radius, and guidance from a local consultant. Working hours are typically 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young adults with SEN in school, care, or community settings.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach to support work.
• Excellent communication skills and adaptability across Exeter and Mid/East Devon.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
• Reliable transport or access to local Devon public transport links.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN (e.g., ASC, ADHD, SEMH, MLD).
• Assist classroom teachers with delivering accessible activities and managing dynamic environments.
• Implement IEPs and positive behaviour management strategies.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive space to enable pupil participation.
• Foster independence and self-esteem during classroom activities and breaks.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).
• Assist Exeter-area classroom teachers with delivering accessible learning activities and managing dynamic classroom environments.
• Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and positive behaviour management strategies.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and encouraging space where pupils feel confident to participate.
• Foster independence and self-esteem during classroom activities, group exercises, and break times.
