Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils with PMLD in a specialist school in Barnet. The role is full-time and long-term, starting ASAP, with PAYE daily rate £95-£115.

You will work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to deliver personalised support, 1:1 and small-group sessions, and help pupils access the curriculum and develop life skills in a safe environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with Complex SEND/PMLD is desirable.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to support personal care if required.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Support pupils with PMLD and complex needs.
• Assist communication using PECS, Makaton or AAC.
• Support sensory regulation and engagement.
• Assist with personal care where required.
• Support mobility and physical needs.
• Work toward EHCP targets and independence.

Experience: Complex SEND / PMLD experience desirable

The Role

You will work closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist staff to provide highly personalised support to pupils with complex needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs
• Supporting communication through approaches such as PECS, Makaton and AAC
• Supporting sensory regulation and engagement
• Assisting with personal care where required
• Supporting mobility and physical needs
• Working towards individual EHCP targets
• Encouraging independence and life skills
• Supporting pupils to access classroom activities and the wider curriculum
• Working alongside therapists and other professionals
• Creating a safe, calm and nurturing environment

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, resilient and genuinely passionate about complex SEND.

Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, physical disabilities or profound communication difficulties would be highly desirable.

Experience with personal care, hoisting, PEGs, suctioning, sensory support, Makaton, PECS, AAC or moving and handling would be advantageous.
