Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an SEN Teacher for a Secondary Special School in Bury, starting September 2026. The role is full-time for the full academic year, with a focus on planning differentiated lessons for pupils with diverse needs, including Down syndrome.

You will work with a supportive leadership team and collaborate with TAs and therapists to maximise pupil progress. A patient, resilient communicator with strong teamwork skills will thrive in this environment.

Qualifications

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Have experience teaching pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Understand how to adapt teaching for learners with Down syndrome and other needs.
  • Be patient, resilient and committed to helping every pupil reach potential.
  • Possess excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.

The Role
  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to meet individual learning needs.
  • Teach and support secondary-aged pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Down syndrome.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom where every student can thrive.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists and other professionals to support pupil progress.
  • Monitor, assess and celebrate individual achievements while adapting teaching strategies to maximise learning outcomes.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues to ensure the best possible support for every learner.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Have experience teaching pupils with special educational needs, or demonstrate a genuine passion for working within an SEN setting.
  • Have an understanding of how to adapt teaching to meet the needs of learners with Down syndrome and other additional needs.
  • Be patient, resilient and committed to helping every pupil reach their full potential.
  • Possess excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
