Job summary

Reed in Peterborough invites applications for a part-time Teaching Assistant to support Deaf Hub’s hearing-impaired students. You will assist in delivering tailored educational activities and help create an inclusive learning environment.

Working with a lead teacher, you will support communication using sign language and other aids, prepare resources, and collaborate with audiologists and speech therapists to implement student plans.

Qualifications

  • Experience with hearing-impaired students or similar educational settings is desirable.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Caring and patient approach to build confidence in students.
  • Ability to work well in a team under a lead teacher.

Responsibilities

Teaching Assistant - Deaf Hub

  • Job Type: Part-time (4 days per week)
  • Location: Peterborough
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our Deaf Hub team in Peterborough. This part-time role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting the educational development of hearing-impaired students.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist in the delivery of educational programs specifically designed for hearing-impaired students.
  • Support the classroom teacher in creating an inclusive and effective learning environment.
  • Facilitate communication between students and staff using appropriate sign language and other communication aids.
  • Help prepare and set up resources and equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Work closely with other professionals within the hub, such as audiologists and speech therapists, to implement comprehensive support plans for students.
  • Monitor and support the progress and well-being of students within the hub.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with hearing-impaired students or in a similar educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A caring and patient approach with the ability to encourage and inspire confidence in students.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and under the guidance of a lead teacher.
