Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment in Wolverhampton is seeking an SEN Teacher to support pupils with additional needs in specialist SEND settings. You will plan differentiated lessons, adapt resources and monitor progress to meet EHCP outcomes.

Based in Wolverhampton, this temporary contract offers flexible hours across full-time, part-time and day-to-day placements, with close collaboration with Teaching Assistants to deliver personalised, inclusive learning experiences.

Qualifications

  • QTS is essential.
  • At least 6 months UK classroom teaching experience.
  • SEND experience and EHCP understanding desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, sensory needs or communication difficulties would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons for pupils with Autism and learning needs.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to individual starting points and needs.
  • Support pupils to achieve EHCP targets.
  • Create a calm, inclusive classroom atmosphere and maintain safeguarding.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupil progress; collaborate with families and professionals.

The Role

As an SEN Teacher, you will work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and other professionals to create a supportive, structured, and inclusive learning environment. Your focus will be on adapting teaching around each pupil’s strengths, learning needs, and EHCP outcomes, ensuring meaningful progress for all.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with a range of needs including Autism, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, and learning disabilities
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to suit individual starting points and needs
  • Support pupils to achieve their personal EHCP targets
  • Create a calm, inclusive classroom atmosphere
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress
  • Promote pupils’ communication, confidence, and independence
  • Work effectively with other education professionals and families
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare
Skills and Experience
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  • At least 6 months’ UK classroom teaching experience needed
  • Previous SEND experience highly desirable
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, sensory needs, or communication difficulties would be beneficial
  • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning outcomes
  • Ability to adapt teaching for a wide range of needs
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach to teaching
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to provide suitable references covering your most recent 24 months
