Job description

Job Title: SEN Teacher (SEMH & Complex Needs Specialist)

Location: Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire

Pay Rate: £140 - £210 per day (MPS/UPS equivalent)

Contract Type: Full-time, Long-Term Placements & Temp-to-Perm Opportunities

Are you a Qualified Teacher (QTS/QTLS) seeking a high-impact role supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Hull and the East Riding?

GAC Education is recruiting dedicated SEN Teachers to lead classrooms across specialist SEN provisions, Alternative Provisions (APs), resourced bases, and mainstream inclusion hubs throughout Hull and surrounding areas (including HU1-HU9, Cottingham, and Hessle).

Whether your expertise lies in adapting core subjects using trauma-informed approaches for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism (ASC), or delivering sensory, small-step learning programmes for non-verbal learners with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), we provide consistent long-term contracts and temp-to-perm pathways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning, adapting, and delivering an inclusive curriculum aligned with individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
  • Directing and deploying classroom Teaching Assistants effectively to deliver 1:1, small-group, and sensory interventions.
  • Implementing positive behaviour support strategies, de-escalation techniques, and alternative communication tools (such as PECS or Makaton).
  • Assessing, recording, and reporting pupil progress using small-step tracking frameworks and EHCP annual review processes.
  • Maintaining a safe, structured learning environment in strict compliance with statutory safeguarding guidelines and school child protection policies.
Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS (ECTs with substantial SEND or SEMH placement experience are encouraged to apply).
  • Proven experience teaching children or young adults with SEND, SEMH, ASC, or complex behavioural needs in a specialist, AP, or mainstream unit setting.
  • An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete a new check during onboarding).
  • Thorough practical understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance.
  • Formal de-escalation training (e.g., Team-Teach, MAPA, or Safety-Intervention) is highly advantageous.
Why Partner with GAC Education?

  • Localised Hull Placements: Dedicated positions matched directly to your postcode and travel preferences across Hull and the East Riding.
