Job summary

GSL Education Newcastle Branch is seeking an SEN Teacher to work in Northumberland (NE62). You will plan and deliver lessons for pupils with SEND, differentiating instruction to meet individual needs within specialist settings.

The role requires strong classroom management, good communication and collaboration with staff. Experience with SEND and a current UK QTS are essential, along with an Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one.

Qualifications

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) required.
  • Experience with SEND or strong interest in specialist education.
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt lessons for individual learning needs.
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour skills.
  • Patient, resilient and able to build positive pupil relationships.
  • Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or willing to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Differentiate learning to ensure access to the curriculum.
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Create a positive, structured classroom environment.
  • Apply effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

  • Collaborate with TAs, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • Follow EHCPs and safeguarding procedures.
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils.

SEN Teachers Wanted - NE62, Northumberland

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are currently recruiting passionate and dedicated SEN Teachers to work within specialist and SEND education settings across the NE62 area of Northumberland.

We are looking for teachers who are passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Opportunities may involve supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties and other additional learning needs.

Whether you are an experienced SEN Teacher, or a qualified mainstream teacher interested in transitioning into specialist education, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As an SEN Teacher, your responsibilities may include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons adapted to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Differentiating learning to ensure pupils can access and engage with the curriculum.
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Creating a positive, structured and supportive classroom environment.
  • Implementing effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies where required.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and adapting teaching approaches accordingly.
  • Supporting pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs and other education professionals.
  • Following individual support plans, Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and school safeguarding procedures.
  • Building positive, consistent and supportive relationships with pupils.
Requirements

To be considered for the SEN Teacher role, you should:

  • Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEND, or demonstrate a strong interest in developing a career within specialist education.
  • Be confident adapting and differentiating lessons to meet individual learning needs.
  • Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Be patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be adaptable and comfortable working within specialist education environments.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.

Experience within SEND, SEMH, Alternative Provision or specialist education would be highly beneficial.

Mainstream teachers looking to transition into SEN education are also strongly encouraged to apply.
