Job summary

GSL Education in Wakefield is seeking an experienced SEN Teacher to inspire and support students with additional needs. The role requires strong teaching practice, patience, and a deep understanding of individual learning needs.

You will plan and deliver differentiated lessons, maintain routines, monitor progress, and work with support staff to ensure inclusive teaching. DBS checks are required; an Update Service registration is preferred.

Qualifications

  • QTS is essential.
  • Experience teaching pupils with special educational needs or additional learning needs.
  • Strong understanding of differentiation and inclusive teaching.
  • Excellent behaviour management and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with support staff, parents and other professionals.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate (Update Service) or willingness to complete a new DBS check.

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are looking for an experienced SEN Teacher to join a school in Wakefield, WF12. The successful candidate will be someone who can combine strong teaching practice with patience, flexibility, and a genuine understanding of individual needs.

The Special Educational Need teacher position calls for a teacher who can create a structured classroom while remaining responsive to pupils who may require different approaches to learning.

As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and delivering lessons that reflect individual learning needs and abilities.
  • Using appropriate differentiation and support strategies to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Establishing predictable routines that help pupils feel secure and ready to learn.
  • Monitoring academic, behavioural and personal development.
  • Working with teaching assistants and other professionals to provide consistent support.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and encouraging greater independence.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reviews of pupil progress where required.
What You Need as an SEN Teacher:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Previous experience teaching pupils with special Educational Need or additional learning needs.
  • A good understanding of differentiation, individual support strategies, and inclusive teaching.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • The confidence to work collaboratively with support staff, parents/carers and other professionals.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new enhanced DBS check.
