Job summary

Outcomes First Group, operating Underley Garden School in Kirkby Lonsdale, is seeking a passionate SEN Teacher to join our dedicated team. You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with SEN, working with teaching assistants, therapists and families to support their academic progress and social development.

This permanent, full-time role starts September 2026. Salary is £41,000 per annum plus travel allowance.

Qualifications

  • QTS/QTLS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience in SEN, SEMH or specialist education is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEN and SEMH.
  • Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment promoting confidence and good behaviour.
  • Assess, monitor and track progress to shape planning and interventions.
  • Work with colleagues, therapists and families to achieve best outcomes for every pupil.
  • Support social, emotional and personal development while promoting wellbeing.

SEN Teacher

Location: Underley Garden School, Kirkby Lonsdale LA6 2DZ

Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.00am - 4.00pm

Salary: £41,000 per annum (not pro rata) + Travel allowance

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

About the Role

As an SEN Teacher, you'll create an engaging, inclusive classroom where every pupil feels safe, valued and motivated to learn. You'll plan and deliver creative, individualised lessons, and work alongside teaching assistants, therapists, families and the wider school team to support pupils' academic progress as well as their social and emotional development. You'll also have the opportunity to take on Form Tutor responsibilities, guiding a small team around your pupils to ensure they receive the personalised support they need to succeed.

  • Deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEN and SEMH.
  • Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment that promotes confidence, independence and outstanding behaviour.
  • Assess, monitor and track progress, using information to shape planning and interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, therapists and families to achieve the best outcomes for every pupil.
  • Support social, emotional and personal development while promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including pastoral support, EHCP reviews, parent communication and ongoing improvement.
What you'll bring
  • QTS/QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Resilience, adaptability and calm confidence, with strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Experience in SEN, SEMH or specialist education is desirable, but not essential-your teaching ability and commitment are what matter most.
  • Driving licence required.

Underley Garden School is a large school with small class sizes, focusing on pupils aged 5-19, who have a range of complex needs associated with autism and learning disabilities, including complex communication, sensory and behavioural needs associated with their disabilities.
