Job summary

Teaching Personnel seeks a caring SEN Support Assistant for a welcoming primary school in Burnley. You will support pupils with SEND, contributing to an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, assist with IEPs and intervention programmes, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals. Safeguarding and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with SEND in a school, childcare, or similar setting.
  • Calm, nurturing, and patient approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Hold a relevant qualification (desirable but not essential).

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of additional needs.
  • Supporting pupils' academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Assisting with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and intervention programmes.
  • Adapting learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging independence.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress and providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
