Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a SEN Learning Mentor to join a specialist primary provision in the Wigan area. The role focuses on supporting pupils aged 4-11 with diverse SEN needs, including ASC, SLD and MLD, within a nurturing school community.

You will work closely with teachers, therapists and families to tailor activities, promote emotional well-being and aid independence, with safeguarding at the core of daily practice.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEN, ASC/SLD/MLD is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS via Update Service or willing to obtain one.
• Relevant qualifications in education or care are advantageous.
• Patient, resilient and positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development.
• Promote positive behaviour strategies and encourage independence.
• Adapt learning activities to individual styles and abilities.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, support staff and parents to monitor progress.
• Ensure safety, safeguarding and well-being of all pupils at all times.
• Assist with personal care where required.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged 4-11 with a range of additional learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), sensory needs, and associated social, emotional and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in schools, care, youth work, or support settings.
• A patient, resilient, and positive attitude.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
• Understanding of SEN needs such as ASC, SLD, MLD, and communication difficulties is desirable.
• Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Psychology, or related fields are advantageous.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
