Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a highly supportive specialist school in the Wigan area. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people aged 5-19 years with a range of complex additional needs, helping them to access education, develop independence, and achieve their full potential.

This specialist provision is known for its strong person-centred approach, excellent staff support, and commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. The school caters for pupils with a variety of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), communication difficulties, sensory needs, and associated complex learning needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with special educational needs.
  • Assist students in accessing learning activities and achieving personalised targets.
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to deliver high-quality support.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual student needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement in learning.
  • Support with personal care where required.
  • Assist with educational visits, enrichment activities, and life skills development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and observations.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs is essential.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Confidence working with pupils who present complex learning, behavioural, or communication needs.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel).
  • Right to work in the UK.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
