Job summary

Academics are recruiting a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to work across Cannock and surrounding South Staffs primary schools. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and Speech and Language needs.

The role offers flexible day-to-day supply, short-term and long-term placements, with opportunities to become ongoing or permanent. DBS Update Service preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEN in a primary school or similar setting.
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Willing to travel to Cannock and surrounding areas; DBS Update Service preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Support pupils to access learning and participate in activities.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, teachers and staff.
  • Assist in creating a safe, inclusive learning environment across schools.
  • Collaborate with class teachers to tailor support per pupil.

Job description

SEN Learning Support Assistant - Part-time - Start Date: 01/09/2026 - Cannock

Academics are currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant 's to work in a range of welcoming primary schools across Cannock and the surrounding South Staffs areas. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a positive impact in the classroom.

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils access learning and reach their full potential. Working closely with the class teacher and wider school staff, you will provide tailored support to children with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, and pupils with EHCPs.

This role offers flexible day-to-day supply, short-term and long-term opportunities, with many placements developing into ongoing or permanent positions.

The Role Includes:
  • Working through Academics, one of the UK's leading education recruitment agencies.
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Supporting children both inside and outside of the classroom to encourage engagement and independence.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, teachers and support staff.
  • Working across a variety of primary schools in Cannock and the surrounding areas.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for every child.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has previous experience supporting children with SEN within a primary school or similar educational setting.
  • Holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or has recent, relevant experience working in education).
  • Has experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs or other additional learning needs.
  • Is patient, adaptable and confident working on a 1:1 basis as well as with small groups.
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or is willing to obtain one.
  • Is able to travel to schools across Cannock and the surrounding areas.
  • Is fully registered with Academics (or willing to complete the registration process).
  • Is available to start from September 2026.
Pay

£93 - £110 per day, depending on experience and the nature of the assignment. Holiday pay is included within the daily rate.

Academics is committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to safeguarding and child protection checks in line with DfE guidance, including references, right to work checks and an enhanced DBS check.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
