Job summary

Newcastle Academy is seeking an Apprentice Learning Support Practitioner to join the SEND team in the North Staffs & Stoke Learning Community. The role offers hands-on classroom experience while working toward a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (SEN Pathway).

Working week is 08:30-15:30, 37 hours per week. Wage is £8.00 per hour, rising to the National Minimum Wage after 12 months if over 19. Training provided by LMP Education; duration 16 months.

Qualifications

• Clear communication and team collaboration are essential.
• Empathy and understanding when working with children with SEND.
• ICT basic skills for learning activities and displays.

Responsibilities

• Work with individuals or small groups under supervision.
• Support pupils with SEND and those for whom English is a second language.
• Assist with planned activities and adapt to pupil responses.
• Support behaviour management and academy policies.
• Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene as required.
• Maintain pupil interests and motivation.
• Assist with group work to raise core skills.
• Help develop individual development plans.
