Location: Oxford
Start Date: November 2026
Salary: £23,000-£27,000 per annum
Type: Full Time

Are you a graduate looking for a rewarding career where you can make a genuine difference to young people?

We're working with a supportive SEN school in Oxford to offer an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience before progressing into a career in teaching or special educational needs.

Depending on the needs of the school, the role may include Cover Supervisor responsibilities, giving you the chance to lead pre-planned lessons, manage a classroom and gain valuable experience in front of pupils.

You’ll work closely with experienced teachers and support staff, developing your confidence and understanding of SEN education along the way.

Your day-to-day role will vary, but could include:

  • Supporting pupils with their learning and individual targets.
  • Working with students one-to-one and in small groups.
  • Supervising classes and delivering pre-prepared lessons.
  • Managing the classroom and encouraging positive behaviour.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting classroom activities and adapting tasks where needed.
  • Working alongside teachers and SEN support staff.
  • Helping pupils develop their communication, independence and social skills.
  • Supporting students with a range of additional needs.
  • Getting involved in school activities and the wider school community.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to learn from experienced staff and develop the practical skills needed for a future career in education.

You don’t need previous experience working in an SEN school. What matters most is your attitude, patience and genuine interest in helping young people.

Experience with children or young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, childcare, youth work or care would be useful, but isn’t essential.

Training and support will be provided as you settle into the role and develop your skills.

We’re looking for graduates who are enthusiastic, patient and keen to build a career working with young people.

You’ll need:

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient and understanding approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Good organisation and teamwork skills.
  • Resilience and a willingness to learn.
  • A genuine interest in SEN and education.
  • The confidence to take guidance and feedback from experienced staff.
  • £23,000-£27,000 salary
  • Full-time employment from November 2026
  • Hands-on experience within an SEN school
  • Potential Cover Supervisor responsibilities
  • Training and ongoing professional development
  • Support and mentoring from experienced teachers and SEN staff
  • Experience working with pupils with a range of additional needs
  • The opportunity to develop your classroom and behaviour management skills
  • A strong foundation for a future career in teaching or SEN

You’ll be joining a welcoming SEN school in Oxford where staff work closely together to give pupils the support they need to succeed.

Every pupil is different, so you’ll gain experience in adapting your approach, building relationships and helping students make progress at their own pace.

If you’re a graduate who wants to gain real classroom experience and explore a career in teaching or SEN, this could be a great place to start.
