Job description

Location: Oxfordshire
Start Date: September/October 2026
Salary: £23,000–£27,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Are you looking for a salaried route into teaching that combines practical experience with professional qualifications?

Our two-year SEND Teacher Training Programme provides the opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining invaluable classroom experience before completing your Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE.

Your first year will be spent working full-time as a SEND Teaching Assistant in one of our partner schools across Oxfordshire. You'll gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Working alongside experienced teachers and specialist professionals, you'll:

  • Support pupils in class and through targeted interventions.
  • Develop skills in behaviour support, communication and inclusive practice.
  • Learn how to adapt learning to meet individual needs.
  • Receive ongoing mentoring and professional development throughout the year.

This experience provides an excellent foundation before beginning formal teacher training.

Following a successful first year, you'll progress onto a fully supported ITT programme, where you'll:

  • Achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE.
  • Develop your teaching skills with expert mentoring.
  • Learn to plan, teach and assess lessons for learners with SEND.
  • Graduate ready to begin a rewarding career as a qualified SEND teacher.
  • Salary of £23,000–£27,000, depending on experience.
  • A structured, salaried pathway into teaching.
  • High-quality mentoring and professional development.
  • A supportive network of experienced SEND professionals.
  • Opportunities to work in specialist and inclusive school settings.
  • Excellent long-term career progression.

We welcome applications from graduates and career changers who are passionate about inclusive education.

You will have:

  • A degree (or be due to graduate before September 2026).
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children with SEND.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience and a positive attitude.
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

If you're committed to making a positive difference in children's lives and want to become a qualified SEND teacher through a supported, salaried training programme, we'd love to hear from you.
