Job description

SEN Cover supervisor (VR/1025413) Swindon, England

Salary: GBP120 - GBP145 per day + Depends on experience

Are you passionate about supporting young people and looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist education setting?

We are recruiting SEN Cover Supervisors to join supportive and forward-thinking specialist schools across Swindon. These schools provide education for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and communication needs.

As an SEN Cover Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment when teachers are absent. You will deliver pre-planned lessons, support students with their learning and provide consistent guidance to help pupils remain engaged and confident within the classroom. Alongside the academic side of the role, you will also provide important pastoral support, helping students manage emotions, develop independence and overcome barriers to learning.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with experience in education, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, support work or other child-focused roles. The most important qualities are patience, resilience and the ability to build strong relationships with young people.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supervising classes and delivering pre-planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, ADHD, MLD, SLD and other additional needs.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and creating a calm, structured learning environment.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and independence.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and wider support teams.
  • Encouraging engagement and participation in learning activities.
We're looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals (preferred but not essential).
  • Is confident managing groups and maintaining a positive classroom environment.
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Is patient, adaptable and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle (preferred due to some school locations).

In return, you'll have the opportunity to work within welcoming SEN schools where staff are valued and supported. You'll gain valuable experience working with pupils with additional needs, receive ongoing support from Prospero Teaching and develop your skills within a rewarding specialist education environment.

If you're looking for a role where no two days are the same and your work can have a genuine impact on young people's lives, we'd love to hear from you.
