Job summary

Walton Leigh School in Walton-on-Thames is seeking an enthusiastic and committed teacher to lead an additional class for the next academic year. You will work with children and young people with ASD/SLD/PMLD, supported by a Senior Teaching Assistant and a team of Teaching Assistants in a caring, specialist environment.

You will collaborate with parents, therapists, and professionals to meet individual needs and help students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children and young people with ASD/SLD/PMLD.
• Able to lead a class of up to 10 pupils in a special school setting.
• Work with parents, therapists and professionals to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead an additional class for the next academic year, supported by TAs.
• Collaborate with parents, therapists and specialists.
• Develop and tailor curriculum to strengths and interests (subject area TBD).

Job description

Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, committed and have experience of working with children and young people with ASD/SLD/PMLD, to lead an additional class for the next academic year.

You will have responsibility for a class of up to 10 children, supported in the classroom by a Senior Teaching Assistant and a team of Teaching Assistants, as well as by an experienced and highly supportive Senior Leadership Team with a strong understanding of both the rewards and challenges of teaching in a special school environment.

Working closely with parents, therapists, specialist teachers and other professionals, you will play a key role in meeting students' individual needs and helping them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. You will also take responsibility for a curriculum area (unless you are an ECT), which will be agreed upon at appointment and tailored to your strengths and interests.
