Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) required.
  • Experience teaching children with Autism, ASC or ASD and complex SEN requested.
  • Ability to deliver highly personalised and creative learning for preverbal pupils.

Responsibilities

SEN Teacher - Primary School Autism Provision

Pertemps Education Network is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Streatham to recruit an exceptional SEN Teacher for their specialist Autism Provision.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to lead a small class of just six primary-aged pupils, all of whom are preverbal autistic children with significant communication and additional learning needs.

The school is looking for a patient, creative and highly adaptable teacher who understands that every child communicates differently and is passionate about creating meaningful learning opportunities.

As the SEN Teacher, you will take responsibility for a small, specialist class and deliver a highly personalised curriculum tailored to the individual needs of each pupil.

You will:
  • Lead and teach a class of six autistic pupils within a specialist primary school provision.
  • Deliver engaging, highly differentiated and personalised learning activities.
  • Support children who are preverbal and communicate through a range of alternative communication methods.
  • Use strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual supports, communication boards and AAC where appropriate.
  • Create a structured, calm and sensory-aware learning environment.
  • Develop pupils' communication, interaction, independence and emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to provide consistent and high-quality support.
  • Adapt learning to meet individual EHCP targets and developmental needs.
  • Work collaboratively with families and external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists.
  • Monitor progress and celebrate every child's individual achievements.
What We're Looking For
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching children with Autism, ASC or ASD and complex SEN.
  • A strong understanding of supporting preverbal children and pupils with significant communication needs.
  • Experience using or working alongside strategies such as PECS, Makaton, AAC and visual communication systems.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to deliver highly personalised and creative learning.
  • Strong behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
