Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in the Low Bentham/Lancaster area after October half-term. The role focuses on supporting pupils with SEMH needs in a trauma‑informed setting, building trusting relationships and aiding both academic and personal progress.

Ideal candidates will have experience with SEMH, SEND or related settings, and a calm, resilient approach. Ongoing professional development and DBS checks are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural needs, or in a care/support setting.
• Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice and relationship‑based approaches.
• Calm, patient and resilient under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• Build strong, positive relationships with young people who may display challenging behaviours.
• Implement trauma‑informed approaches to support emotional regulation and engagement.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider staff team to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Encourage personal development, resilience, confidence and independence.
• Support pupils to access learning and achieve their individual targets.
