Job summary

Aspire People is seeking dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to support primary and secondary pupils in Kings Norton, South Birmingham. You will provide targeted pastoral and educational support to pupils with SEMH needs and additional learning needs within an alternative provision setting.

You will build trusting relationships, work with staff, manage behaviours, encourage independence, and help pupils re-engage with learning in a safe, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach with consistency.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support to primary and secondary pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs.
• Build trusting relationships to help pupils develop confidence and resilience.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to provide pastoral and educational support.
• Support emotional regulation and behaviour management to reduce barriers to learning.
• Encourage independence and life skills, promoting positive relationships.
• Help create a calm, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
• Recognise small steps and celebrate progress, tailoring support to each pupil.
• Be part of a committed team supporting wider pupil needs and school community.
