Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking an experienced teaching assistant with SEMH/SEND experience for a supply role at a Croydon specialist school. You will work with teachers to provide 1:1 and small group interventions, helping students overcome emotional barriers and re-engage with learning.

Responsibilities include classroom support, managing behaviour, and monitoring pupil progress while ensuring a calm, inclusive environment. Various well-being benefits and flexible working options are available.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent standard). Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
• Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision environment.
• Strong communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive approach.
• High levels of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with challenging or vulnerable pupils.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.
• Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.
• Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.
• Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.
