Job summary

Balfor Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Teaching Assistant in Thrapston, Northamptonshire, to support secondary pupils who may need personalised, supportive education. The role involves 1:1 and small-group work, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and engage with lessons.

You will assist with differentiating activities, support behavioural development, and work closely with teachers to create a positive learning environment. DBS Update readiness is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months' experience in a UK school.
  • Experience with SEMH, challenging behaviour, AutIsm and/or ADHD desirable.
  • Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils.
  • DBS registered onto the Update service.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education setting in Thrapston, Northamptonshire, supporting secondary-aged pupils who require a more personalised and supportive approach to their education.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team and make a genuine difference in the lives of young people.

The Role
  • Provide 1:1 support and work with small groups of secondary-aged pupils.
  • Support pupils who may experience barriers to learning, disengagement from education and behavioural challenges.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Help create a positive, supportive and structured learning environment.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support pupils with their social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Assist with behaviour management using positive and consistent strategies.
  • Encourage pupils to engage with their learning and develop confidence and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers and other members of the school team to support individual pupil needs.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people at all times.
What We're Looking For
  • A minimum of 6 months' experience working within a school or education setting in the UK.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, Autism and/or ADHD would be highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils.
  • DBS registered onto the Update service.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Confidence in supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour or have difficulties engaging in education.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
