Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a Male SEMH Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Sutton to support secondary pupils with SEMH needs. The role focuses on building strong relationships, managing challenging behaviour and providing one-to-one and small-group support.

You will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams, providing a calm, structured environment and acting as a positive male role model throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding checks and DBS as applicable.

Responsibilities

Male SEMH Teaching Assistant - Specialist School - Sutton

Are you a resilient, confident and motivated Teaching Assistant who enjoys working with young people and making a real difference?

We are currently recruiting for a Male SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Sutton, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who can build strong relationships with young people, confidently manage challenging behaviour and act as a positive male role model within the school environment.

You may have a background in education, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care, support work, residential settings or the wider education sector. Most importantly, you will be someone who is patient, consistent and able to remain calm when faced with challenging situations.

The Role

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils.

Who We're Looking For

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs is highly desirable.
• A confident and calm approach to behaviour management.
• The resilience to work in a demanding but highly rewarding environment.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A patient, consistent and empathetic approach.
• The ability to establish boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.
• A background in youth work, sports, mentoring, education, care, support work, psychology or similar would be beneficial.

You don't necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant. If you have strong experience working with young people and feel you could positively influence students who need additional support, we would be keen to hear from you.
