Job summary

GSL Education is seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant for a specialist SEMH school in Princes Risborough. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils engage with learning and regulate emotions, while building trusting relationships and promoting positive behaviour.

The role requires patience, resilience and empathy, with experience in SEMH or challenging behaviour advantageous but not essential.

SEMH Teaching Assistant | Princes Risborough | £92-£120 per day | Full-time

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Princes Risborough, supporting pupils who may require additional support with their learning, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may have a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils engage with education, manage their emotions and develop confidence and independence.

The role may involve supporting pupils with:

• SEMH needs
• Challenging or complex behaviour
• Autism
• ADHD
• Emotional and behavioural difficulties
• Additional learning needs
• Social and communication difficulties

What You'll Be Doing

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support both in and outside the classroom.
• Supporting pupils to engage positively with their learning.
• Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage challenging behaviour.

• Supporting teachers and the wider school team with individual pupil needs.

What We're Looking For

Previous experience working with SEMH or challenging behaviour is advantageous but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who are:

• Patient, resilient and empathetic.
• Confident working with children and young people.
• Able to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.
• Good at building positive relationships and gaining trust.
• Passionate about supporting young people who may have struggled in mainstream education.
• Comfortable working as part of a wider school team.

Experience as an SEN TA, Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Worker, Sports Coach or Behaviour Support Worker would be highly beneficial.
