GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Hounslow, West London, on a full-time, long-term basis. You will support students with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour and additional learning needs, helping them engage with learning, build confidence and social-emotional skills.

Key duties include 1:1 and small-group support, managing behaviour, building positive relationships, and working with teachers to create a safe, inclusive learning

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Supporting students with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Encouraging students to engage with learning and classroom activities.
  • Supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping students develop coping strategies.
  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals to support individual student needs.
  • Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Alternative Education Provision

Location: Hounslow, West London
Job Type: Full-time | Long-term | Term-time

GSL Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist education setting in Hounslow on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or Support Worker who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour and additional learning needs.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who may require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support. You will play a key role in helping students engage positively with their education, build confidence and develop important social and emotional skills.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs
  • Supporting students with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
  • Encouraging students to engage with learning and classroom activities
  • Supporting students both inside and outside the classroom
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping students develop coping strategies
  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals to support individual student needs
  • Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Previous experience working with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and young people
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional and complex needs
  • The ability to remain adaptable and professional in challenging situations
  • Availability to work full-time

Previous experience working within a PRU, alternative provision, special school, youth work or support work setting would be highly beneficial.
