Job summary

Academics in Slough is recruiting a SEMH Intervention Support Assistant to assist pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs from September 2026. You will deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions, support emotional regulation, and work with teachers and families to implement individual support plans.

Location: Slough


Pay: £92.59-£95 per day


Start Date: September 2026


Contract: Full-time | Long-term

Academics are working with a caring and inclusive primary school in Slough that is looking for a dedicated SEMH Intervention Support Assistant to join its team from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who benefit from additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them engage positively with school and achieve their potential.

As an SEMH Intervention Support Assistant, you will:



  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Support children in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies

  • Build trusted relationships with pupils to encourage confidence, self-esteem, and engagement in learning

  • Monitor progress and contribute to individual support plans alongside the wider school team

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, parents, and external agencies to provide consistent, high-quality support

  • Promote positive behaviour and help create a calm, inclusive learning environment


The Ideal Candidate Will:


  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children's emotional wellbeing and mental health

  • Be patient, empathetic, and confident in building positive relationships with young people

  • Demonstrate resilience and a proactive approach when supporting pupils with additional needs

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, therapy, or special educational needs
