Job summary

Talent Recruitment Group is seeking SEMH Teaching Assistants / Behaviour Support Assistants to join a specialist provision in Oldham. Roles start ASAP or from September 2026, with opportunities for permanency for the right candidate.

You will support pupils with SEMH needs, help them manage emotions, engage with learning, and work closely with teachers to deliver structured learning activities. Ideal candidates will have background in youth work, care or mentoring, with a passion for helping

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people or in mentoring roles.
  • Care or support work experience is advantageous.
  • Experience or interest in sports coaching can be relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Support SEMH pupils during lessons and throughout the school day.
  • Provide targeted 1:1 support for pupils needing extra guidance.
  • Assist teachers with delivering engaging, structured activities.
  • Help promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Build strong relationships to encourage confidence and participation.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support - ASAP & September Starts

Location: Oldham

Pay: £92.50-£110.00 per day

Contract: Full-time | Temporary with the Opportunity to Become Permanent

About the Role

We are recruiting dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants / Behaviour Support Assistants to join a specialist educational provision in Oldham. We have opportunities available for both immediate (ASAP) starts and September 2026.

The provision supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including children who have experienced partial or permanent exclusion from mainstream education. Your role will be to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours, and build the confidence needed to succeed in a supportive and structured setting.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will provide both classroom and 1:1 support, helping pupils manage their emotions, engage in learning, and achieve positive outcomes. While the role can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding for those who are passionate about making a difference.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs during lessons and throughout the school day
