Job summary

Talent Recruitment Group is seeking a Behaviour Support Mentor (SEMH) for a secondary school in Failsworth, Greater Manchester, with immediate starts available. You will support Key Stage 3 pupils with SEMH needs both in class and one-to-one, helping them manage emotions and engage with learning.

The role requires calm, patient and resilient approach, experience in behaviour management and de-escalation, and the ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs or behaviours that challenge is desirable.
• Calm, patient and resilient when dealing with challenging situations.
• Confident using behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Able to build rapport with pupils while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
• Previous experience in education, youth work, care, residential support or a similar setting is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and classroom support for Key Stage 3 pupils with SEMH needs.
• Help students manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies.
• Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and participation in learning.
• Apply appropriate de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour support strategies.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.
• Maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and personal development.
• Support pupils in developing resilience, independence and social skills.
