Security Supervisor - Internal Applicants Only

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the University of Cambridge Security Section as a Security Supervisor.

Starting salary: approximately £35,003 - £40,021 per annum. This figure includes a 25% additional salary supplement.

This is a permanent position working a regular shift pattern of 40 hours per week. The role requires the post holder to work unsociable hours, including nights and weekends, and to undertake on-call duties. In recognition of these requirements, a 25% supplement is payable in addition to the basic salary.

The Security Section plays an essential role in supporting University business by protecting University property and helping to safeguard staff, students and visitors. The team provides alarm monitoring, uniformed patrol and incident response services across more than 350 buildings throughout the University estate, as well as managing an extensive CCTV system.

Working closely with University and departmental colleagues, the Colleges and external stakeholders. The Security Section provides a 24-hour, 365-day response, supporting the prevention and detection of crime and responding to a wide range of security, safety and operational incidents across the University estate.

About the role

The Security Supervisor will assist the Security Management Team with the implementation and supervision of day-to-day security operations. This includes supporting the effective running of the University Security Control Centre and providing line management and supervision to the University Security Patrollers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of security services, including the allocation and supervision of work, maintaining operational and customer service standards, supporting staff development, training and managing performance where required. The role holder will also be expected to provide effective leadership during security incidents, making appropriate operational decisions and ensuring incidents are managed and escalated in accordance with University procedures.

The role operates on a shift basis as part of the University's full 24-hour, seven-day-a-week security operation and will include night and weekend working.

You will need to demonstrate sound judgement, confidence in decision-making and the ability to remain calm and provide clear direction when dealing with challenging or difficult situations.

You should be able to work effectively as part of a team, motivate and support colleagues and maintain high standards of professionalism and customer service.

Ideally, you will have:

• Proven experience within the security industry or another comparable profession
• The ability to lead, motivate and support colleagues
• Good technical knowledge of security systems
• A relevant security qualification
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing operational demands

Possession of a full, clean driving licence is essential, as the role requires the post holder to drive University vehicles.
