Job summary

Wiltshire Police is seeking a committed Security Controller to maintain site security and act as the first line of defence against threats. The role places you at the heart of the security response and requires calm, decisive action.

You will work in a control room, respond to alarms, operate CCTV systems, and coordinate initial responses. A background in policing, military, security, or protection is preferred, with strong collaboration with partner agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to alarms and security incidents in a control room and coordinate initial response.
  • Operate CCTV systems confidently without direct supervision.
  • Protect sensitive information and uphold Data Protection principles.
  • Coordinate resources and liaise with Senior Commanders when armed units are required.
  • Carry out administrative and IT tasks as needed within the department.
  • Engage with external partner agencies as part of operations.

About the role

We are looking for a committed Security Controller to maintain the security and integrity of the site and be the first line of defence when potential threats arise. If you’re calm under pressure and ready to take responsibility, this role puts you at the heart of our security response.

What you will be doing
  • Working within a control room you will provide initial response to alarms and security incidents and respond to all alarms (intruder, building, personal attack, fire) and any unforeseen event or
    emergency by co-ordination or determination of the perceived level of threat and risk.
  • Operate CCTV systems confidently without direct supervision
  • Protect sensitive information and uphold strict Data Protection principles
  • Where a perceived level of threat or risk has been determined/identified, co-ordinate appropriate level of initial response by calling for resources to deal with the emergency. This may
    include liaison with Senior Commanders where armed police units are required. The Security Controller will play a key role in ongoing communication and sharing of Intelligence throughout
    incident to dynamically mitigate any risk.
  • Carry out other administrative and IT tasks which may be required due to operational needs within the specified operation and the Specialist Operations department, this will include examining and
    analysing electronic imaging and videos
  • Experience of working with external partner agencies
  • Previous police, military, security or protection background.
  • Previous experience of CCTV or technical alarm systems

  • Any paperwork relating to discharged debts, CCJ, bankruptcy etc
  • Deed poll certificate for any name changes
