Qualifications

  • Experience managing enterprise applications in a large DDaT environment.
  • Knowledge of on-premise, cloud-hosted and SaaS applications.
  • ITIL 4 Foundation or equivalent service-management knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operational management of business-critical applications, ensuring security, resilience and performance.
  • Define and deliver application operations strategies and roadmaps aligned to cloud strategy and enterprise priorities.
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native capabilities, automation and best practice for scalability and value.
  • Lead incident, major incident and problem management for applications with rapid resolution and RCAs.
  • Govern change and release activities, ensuring safe testing and deployment with minimal disruption.
  • Monitor and optimise performance, availability and cost using data to inform decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with security, data protection and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Service Owners, suppliers and teams to continually improve services.

About the role

As Lead Application Operations Engineer, you will provide technical and operational leadership for the critical applications that underpin modern policing. You willbe responsible forensuring applications are secure, resilient, high-performing and aligned to our digital and cloud strategy. Working across multidisciplinary teams,suppliersand stakeholders, you will drive continual improvement, operationalexcellenceand innovation, helping to maximise the value of digital, data and technology services while delivering outstanding outcomes for users and communities.

What you will be doing
  • Lead the operational management of business-critical applications, ensuring they remain secure, resilient, available and high performing.
  • Define and deliver application operational strategies and roadmaps aligned to cloud strategy, enterprise architecture and organisational priorities.
  • Drive the adoption of cloud-native capabilities, automation and best practice to improve scalability, resilience and service value.
  • Lead incident, major incident and problem management activities for applications, ensuring rapid resolution, root cause analysis and continual service improvement.
  • Govern application change and release activities, ensuring updates are safely assessed, tested and deployed with minimal disruption.
  • Monitor and optimise application performance, availability, capacity, licensing and cost, using data and insight to drive informed decisions.
  • Ensure applications remain compliant with security, accessibility, data protection and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Service Owners, suppliers and technical teams to continuously improve application services, user experience and operational outcomes.
About you and your experience
  • Experience supporting, managing or leading enterprise applications within a complex Digital, Data and Technology environment.
  • Strong knowledge of application operations, service management, availability, performance, security and operational support.
  • Experience working with on-premise, cloud-hosted and SaaS applications, with a strong understanding of modern operating models.
  • The ability to lead technical resolution activities, manage operational risk and make informed decisions in complex service environments.
  • Experience driving continual improvement, automation and service optimisation using operational and performance data.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical, operational and supplier communities.
  • A passion for delivering high-quality, resilient and user-centred services that support organisational outcomes.
